Check out my finished summer scroll below.

Little is good. It’s easy to start and easy to manage. I made this mini scroll over the summer with the stitch club community. It came everywhere with. It’s also a great place to use really small scraps that are extra special like that very tiny green and paisley print. If you feel test driving a little daily stitch practice the scroll is a really easy and fun place to start.

After the scroll we (stitch club) roll right into the fall stitch journal. It’s a dozen stitched panels made over the 12 -ish weeks of autumn. It’s a great warm up for the 100 day stitch book coming up January. The more you show up for a small daily practice the easier it becomes. The habit strengthens and it just folds into your life after a while.

Small fabric panels with improvisational stitch and applique on my work table,

I love working improvisationaly and seeing what turns up. It feels less like creating and more like watching something evolve on its own. I don’t feel pressure for it to be anything, or serve any purpose, or represent anything. It’s just what happens – action and response- over and over. It’s playful and experimental, you can’t get it wrong. It’s also a nice counter stretch to all the hours I spend doing technical or very precise work. It balances me out.
