feather

I got another surprise package from Stephen Szczepanek ( sri threads) yesterday, so many treasures it’s too much to think about all at once but I’ll share a couple: A single exquisite feather – the picture doesn’t do it justice – it is so soft and iridescent it seems almost liquid, it makes me think of this quote from “The Rings of Saturn” :

“I have always kept ducks,┬á he said, even as a child, and the colors of their plumage, in particular the dark green and snow white, seemed to me the only possible answer to the questions that are on my mind.”

Some impossible blues – already being made into something. Thanks very much Mr. Szczepanek.

And something else – progress this morning on a new ship.

  1. Can I just say “Le Sigh” and be done? That feather is simply sumptuous!
I often wonder if I’m the only woman who’d like to wear tons of gorgeous feathers… I think not čÖé
I think we should bring back hats! With sweeping feathers and dramatic shapes!

  2. Hello,
I am so glad I found your blog! You are such a talented artist. I adore your work! And I would like to try to make a little horse based on your pattern..
    Wonderful inspiration! Thanks, Monika

  3. So glad I stumbled upon your blog. Your work is amazing! I have been dabbling in soft sculpture dolls for a couple of years now and am always in need of your kind of inspiration. I absolutely love the owls. When I was about 8 or 9 I made an felt owl for my grandfather. When he passed away I got it back and still keep it in my sewing box.
    Do you have a website??

    Thanks, Barb

I am almost done going through your archives and your ships are some of the most beautiful sculptures I have ever seen. I will be sad when I have run out of pages to linger over.
